Trip to Indonesia...Part 3 Food!

It would be crazy not to make a post just on the food in Indonesia so I just had to make one!
We only stayed in Bondowoso for a night and spent the rest of the trip in Surabaya.

My cousin brought me to a bakery and they have the cutest bread/pastries! I mean look at the little turtle and bird. Personally I'm not a big fan of chocolate so i opted out and got a banana pastry instead. Oh and right outside the supermarket they have a great little bubble tea shop called Quickly. I became a regular there during my short trip! If you ever get the chance try it!

After awhile I went along with my other cousin to the mall and got some really good cheesecake. Drinking coffee in 90 degree weather? Yup totally.

I forgot to take pictures of these two fruit while I was there so I got my cousin to send me a picture. The first one is called a durian. For some it is a sweet, tangy, custardy fruit from heaven. Um yea for some..For me and a ton of others it smells bad. So bad that Singapore made it illegal to have one in public areas. The taste isn't any better, it's actually really hard to describe. But to the people in Indonesia it's called "King of the Fruits".
The second fruit on the other hand is really good. Longan is fresh, sweet, and small. It would be perfect for on the go if it didn't have any seeds. They have really good shaved ice flavored like that!
When we went back to my aunt's house we found this little basket of Tape waiting for us. It's basically fermented cassava root that has an alcoholic taste. It tastes great with vanilla ice-cream! You should only put a little though, its really strong.

My aunt brought me to a little bakery called Igor's. They had some really nice looking desserts and some cool breads. We ended up buying some nastar and macaroons. The pineapple nastar was really good but the macaroons were okay.
It wouldn't be possible to live in a 90 degree climate without ice-cream! My cousin brought me to an ice-cream shop called Mon Cheri, formerly Sangrandi. The ice-cream there is really different, its like a cross between gelato and sherbet. And yes those are cornflakes, Fruity Pebbles would be better but hey it's pretty good.

Another thing I almost forgot was that the portions there are so small. Albeit they are very cute but hey I need my ice-cream. In real life the sunday was probably the size of those two round cups put together.

~I lost a ton of my food pictures so my cousins are going to send me some,so this post is definitely getting updated

Music!

These bands are really great! Imagine Dragons have been my favorite for a while now. For Young the Giant's album the first song, Apartment, is nice.

And here's something different! My friend introduced me to them and I can't stop listening. Their other song Nobody's Hero is great too but I couldn't find a video.

Trip to Indonesia...Part 2

Off the plane and the first thing you see is this little piece of paradise! After this I really wondered how astronauts felt like getting off the spaceship...

When I got off I was taking pictures like a mad-man, you should have seen the looks on my cousin's faces. It's a bit hazy but I think that place in the background (Rich Palace) had some good food. Either that or it was some other place.

Oh wow I was off by three months...sorry guys. Anyway we landed in Surabaya and had to drive up the mountain to Bondowoso.
On the way there was so many mountains and volcanoes, some of them are un-active but it was still cool.

The trip up to Bondowoso took about 4 hours but felt a lot longer. The scenery was so breathtaking though that it didn't really matter.
When I took this picture we weren't that far away, unfortunately I think my camera died so no more pictures till the next day.

Trip to Indonesia 2012...part 1

Well last year about this time my mom and I visited Indonesia. The trip was amazing! Everything was so different compared to here, especially the weather. The people there are amazing too! Honestly if I stayed any longer I would have probably eaten myself to death. There is food everywhere and it's all pretty varied. So this is going to be a pretty long post...

The start of the adventure is where else than the airport?! It was really crowded but it was nice to see all the people. We didn't ride Swiss airlines but it was a nice shot.

I thought this was just really funny, pens chained to a table is normal but never have I seen a chair.

After 5 hours we had to go on the plane, I don't know these people but sometimes I do wonder how they are, you know?

Finally up in the air on the way to Germany!  Just for a transit though..*sigh*

Opps found the picture of our plane!

The airport in Frankfurt was really nice and the food was great too, haagen dazs was the best!

After a 26 hour ride from NYC to Indonesia (not including transit) it was great to finally get some fresh air! Right out of the plane you could tell that this place was different, in a good way.

Sick Day and Geocaching

Well its winter what do you expect? I caught something but the sleeping-in makes up for it. While on the Internet I found this thing called geocaching. It sounds pretty cool especially when you  have nothing to do. I checked the app and apparently there's one less than half a mile away which is bugging me like crazy to go out!
